CO2 emissions reduction at Nowy Styl

  • CO₂ emissions reduction at Nowy Styl

We invite you to read a summary of our efforts in greenhouse gas emissions reduction.

Company Policy

The on-going discussion of climate change and the environment gained great following in the last couple of years. Nowy Styl has been conscious of the emissions that have contributed to this climate change and has taken responsibility to ensure that its business activities and products are conducted in a sustainable and responsible manner.

Nowy Styl has once again solidified its position as a sustainability leader, winning the EcoVadis Platinum Medal for the fourth consecutive time. Nowy Styl score in this year's EcoVadis assessment improved to 86/100, up by 4 points compared to the previous year. The company recorded notable progress in all assessed categories.
The company also achieved two further accolades this year: the Ethical Company 2024 title and the ESG Rising Star distinction, both awarded by Puls Biznesu.

In 2024 the CO₂ emissions were 45% reduced in comparison with the results in 2018.
The main reason for this is the fact that we bought green energy from wind and solar. The reduction is a bit less than last year, mainly because of higher energy consumption for the production in Poland.
The target relates to the relative emissions linked to annual turnover defined as the revenue from the sale of products and services without other operating and financial.

CO₂ Objectives

As of 2019 Nowy Styl uses the Dutch CO₂ Performance Ladder - sustainability support system for companies to manage their carbon footprint and reduce CO2 emissions. According to its methodology, we calculate the carbon footprint for Nowy Styl in Poland, in Germany (Nowy Styl Deutschland GmbH) and Nowy Styl in the Netherlands.

In our analyses and initiatives, we focus on the organization's direct and indirect emissions, which correspond to Scopes 1 and 2 according to the GHG Protocol methodology.
Nowy Styl has set ambitious targets for reducing its greenhouse gas emissions, focusing on both Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, measured together and in relation to the company’s annual turnover (the targets relate to the relative emissions linked to the annual turnover defined as the revenue from the sale of products and services without other operating and financial).

Combined Scope 1 and 2 Objective:
Nowy Styl aims to produce 50% less CO₂ emissions in 2025 compared to 2018, which implies an average annual reduction of 7.1%.

Concerning the individual scopes:
•    Scope 1 (direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by the organisation):
10% reduction in 2025 compared to 2018.
•    Scope 2 (indirect emissions, mainly from the consumption of electricity produced externally): 50% reduction in 2025 compared to 2018.

CO₂ emissions in 2024

The direct GHG-emissions of Nowy Styl in 2024 are 8.515 t CO₂ (scope 1), the indirect GHG-emissions are 6.731 t CO2 (scope 2) and business air travel are 449 t.
This calculates to a total of 15.694 ton CO₂-emissions in scope 1, 2 and business air travel for 2024.

What we have done in 2024

The most significant reduction measure is the purchase of 6,000 MWh of sustainable electricity in Poland, generated from wind or solar sources. In addition, the Dutch offices are sourcing green energy locally from the Netherlands

Proposed Reduction Measures
•    Implement the use of sustainable electricity generated by wind turbines and solar panels at production facilities in Poland.
•    Invest in energy-efficient machinery in order to improve the energy efficiency of production processes.
•    Achieve a 2% improvement in heating energy efficiency at the German offices.
•    Upgrade lighting in the Dutch offices to LED technology.
•    Use digital conference system(s) to minimize the number of business travel and flights.
•    Transition to more sustainable vehicles within the company car fleet in Nowy Styl Poland.
•    The Dutch offices aim to operate a fully electric vehicle fleet, targeting four electric vehicles by 2025.

The CO₂ Performance Ladder is a Dutch initiative managed by the Foundation for Climate Friendly Procurement and Business (SKAO). This foundation oversees its use, development, certification, and industry expansion. SKAO supports companies and governments in reducing CO₂ emissions by fostering connections, sharing knowledge, and strengthening networks to promote a climate-neutral business environment.

You can read more about this on the CO₂ Performance Ladder website. Here you can find our page on The SKAO site.
