A rite of passage A rite of passage An opening party is a great way to integrate employees, especially at such an uncertain moment as office change and relocation, or when new people join the company. It is also a great opportunity to celebrate past successes together, as a community. At the end of 2018, nearly one hundred j-labs employees moved in to their new office, to officially inaugurate it shortly thereafter. A red carpet stretching from the lift to the reception, the clinking of champagne glasses, a cake, a cocktail bar, a DJ, a foosball tour- nament, a press wall for taking photos, dancing, talking, laughing and, above all, mixing with people: this is what the welcome event looked like. – It was our housewarming party. We were exploring the new office and actually getting to know our colleagues, be- cause previously, while working in different parts of the building on Przemysłowa Street, not everyone had known each other – say Katarzyna Bucka oraz Marta Antosiewicz, the originators and or- ganisers of the event. – We figured a welcome party was a very important aspect of the move. We were right. The event was at- tended by almost all employees, as well as those who had worked with us before and keep following our growth. Together, we made the new office feel like home. We needed that ‘rite of passage’ a lot. 19
