Kraków Office of Nowy Styl

24 It is a good idea to involve employees in a new office space ar- rangement process. It pays off with better identification with the project and greater satisfaction. A sense of influence is important. We gave it to our employees when we carried out a workspace study. They had an opportunity to share their suggestions about the new office and flag their needs and expectations. At a later stage, we wanted to ask them for feedback again and take the opportunity to make use of their creativity. We were looking for ideas to come up with a naming system for conference rooms. First, everyone could enter three naming concepts. Next, out of the pool of concepts received the project group chose a few that were in keeping with the strategy and a general idea of the office. The best concepts were put up for a popular vote in the second step. Because the pool of concepts had been verified by the project group, we were confident we would be able to deploy any winning concept. Employees chose a conference room naming concept inspired by countries where we have our branch offices. Today, we can choose to meet in a room called Ӧsterreich with Mozart reigning supreme. Involving employees in the space arrangement process Employees were able to vote for the room naming concept they liked the most. Because the pool of concepts had been verified by the project group, we were confident we would be able to deploy any winning concept. The winning concept in our vote was to name conference rooms after the names of the countries where our showrooms are lo- cated. Employees highlighted diversity as an important element of our organisation. Each country we have a branch in builds our company and strengthens its international character. To further emphasize this, we decided that the country names given to our rooms would take the original forms they have in the respective languages. We also decorated themwith graphics showing famous people strongly associated with the respective countries. So, today we have our meetings in rooms called: La Belgique, Česká repub- lika, Polska, Nederland, Deutschland and six others, and we meet in the company of Audrey Hepburn, Sigmund Freud, Nicolaus Co- pernicus, Ludwig van Beethoven and others.
