j-labs case study

Workstations were provided with Play&Work and eModel benches. These solutions had been proven in hundreds of office projects before. They are versatile and highly functional, offering large working surfac- es: a feature particularly important to engineers, who often use more than one monitor and specialist hardware, such as docking stations. Two outermost desks in a bench were fitted with electric height ad- justment. They include ones that the Group had supplied for the pre- vious j-labs office on Przemysłowa Street in 2017. Inventory of existing furnishings was taken as part of the new space arrangement process, followed by removal of desks which were still to be used, and dis- posal of those to be replaced. Panels were used between desks to guarantee sufficient privacy while avoiding the ‘box effect’: shut- ting off individual teammembers completely. All workstations were fitted with vertical and horizontal cable ducts, a feature as impor- tant to software engineers as the large working area, because they help to control the large number of cables which would otherwise inevitably become a frustrating tangle. For better communication For better ergonomics For improved comfort Based on that information, a space plan was prepared. About 100 workstations were laid out around a centrally located kitchen. Despite being placed in an open space, efforts were made to ensure the work- stations were not distributed over a single unbroken surface. Six-seater workbenches were grouped together in twos, to allow collaborating teams to sit next to each other. Meeting rooms were provided with nat- ural divisions between the various sections. The sense of privacy was reinforced by introducing 2 – or 4-seater Hexa sofas with acous- tic properties which created additional isolated spaces for quick meetings or phone calls. As a result, we get an office which, de- spite being large and open, does not look deserted like the classic open space. This solution also promotes communication. This is be- cause desk sections are not separated by permanent partitions, so people can pass from one part to another naturally and smoothly. As for chairs, the Navigo model, well-proven in many projects, was the one to be chosen. The chair has good ergonomic parameters and a timeless design. As requested by the survey respondents, desks were provided with mobile pedestals (the SQart model), and loc- kers were installed in hallways for storing items which need to be accessed less frequently. Thus, plenty of work space was saved. 14
